DrDeve - No to both suggestions. I followed the directions to the letter. I also installed successfully on my Toshiba Satellite P laptop. Following same procedure on my AMD desktop characterised above , I keep getting the message that it cannot mount the drive with anything other than NTFS. Please note that I am using the latest version of Virtualbox 4. Again, 2 successful installs, only one that fails to mount the drive at the point of trying to format using ext3 option.

DrDeve When I got back to trying this out, I ran into a different issue. The VM just kept restarting after selecting any option from the installation disk menu.
I first searched for anything related to file settings for a VM under Windows. There is no option at all to configure this. So, not sure what to say there. I removed that setting and tried running everything from scratch again. This time it actually worked to format the disk and install Android. However, now Android starts up, but then something crashes it so it just keeps restarting itself, never getting to the Android desktop. Any thoughts on how to debug that issue?
Here is the log from the end of the first run through several Android resets VM continually running. Okay, no sooner did I get done posting that than I went back to the VM and found it had finally come up. I guess it just took a while to configure itself. So, in short, I have no real clue as to why the initial trouble with the drive formatting. I uninstalled VirtualBox and reinstalled several times, where the last few times I ran into the new problem of not getting past the installation menu screen, which was fixed by simply turning off acceleration.
I wish there was some epiphany to the drive formatting issue, but really did everything the same way each time. The last several entries in the log now that Android is running is note the reset times are about seconds apart : RENEW has been silently ignored If the latter I suspect your networking might not be set to NAT -- that critical for Internet access.

I managed to download it from from the vm so internet works but it never delivers messages. How do you mean gapps aren't working? I don't have networking working in this setup, though, but if I did: the Play Store is there, this is the gapps, the Google Play Services are there.
